Marriage! Perfectionist v/s Slob...

A perfectionist and a semi-slob unite and collide!

We're polar opposites - He's tall, I'm short. He's a night owl and I am a morning person. His closet is organized, mine looks like something exploded. His truck is usually clean and I swear my car reeks of pig odor (don't ask). BUT God’s plan is to bring about the best in this hot mess of a thing we call marriage.

Darryl often tells couples, "what attracted us to each another will potentially annoy us."

How can we continue to grow in love with someone whose seemingly negative traits grate our last nerve?

  • Recognizing, respecting and embracing one another’s differences encourages unity and growth in the marriage. It’s a choice.

  • Allow Jesus to become the center of your life and marriage; He makes it all make sense: trust Him.

Fast forward about thirty (30) years! By the help of God, we've managed to go from demanding our own way to depending on each other and trusting Him with the details. Praying for one another daily has a way of changing our perspective while softening our hearts.

It is crucial to celebrate one another's gifts and let go of the non-essentials.

As a result of ^^^ we intentionally focus on one another's strengths instead of the weaknesses. Of course we continue to work on those insignificant traits that grate the nerves.

Refer to the following passages often:

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."

1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NIV)

"Be completely humble and gentle; Be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace."

Ephesians 4:2-3 (NIV)

"Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." Mark 10:9 (NIV)
