1: Love God 2: Love people It's easy to blog about "love". Today we'll peruse the reality and cost to follow through with one and two: EVERYTHING. Jesus ruffled the feathers of the religious crowd of His day. I think it's fair to say these two mandates of Christ are offensive in the 2016 church culture. Why? we want to love Jesus but some of these christians... is it even possible to love them? (yes-read on) In Matthew 22:34-39 Jesus was dealing with a churchy bunch of self righteous hypocrites. (Pharisee & Sadducee) They sent one of their religion experts to trap Jesus, He pulled no punches, nor did He beat around the bush. He tanned their hides though when He stated clearly: “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’" Why are these two commands so challenging? Action. Love requires us to act on His Words. We must love Him and surrender to Him. Friend, obedience to His instructions aren't optional. A heart surrendered to Him desires to honor His Word. Why will it cost me everything? You too will be hated by the haters but if we love because of the Name of Jesus Christ we will become selfless enough to give up everything so that they'll come to know Him. Loving unlovable people will always be a challenge but it's not a choice. Challenge for 2016: Love HIM? Love THEM.
