There are MONdays I don’t handle the thoughts pounding against my mind well at all. As a matter of fact I’ve found myself cowering behind the shield as if it’s too small to do its job! Really?!
The “shield of faith” is designed to give protection and extinguish the burning arrows or thoughts implanted in our minds by the evil one such as:
Doubt. You start asking yourself, “Did God really say? Can I really trust God? Isn’t that just your interpretation?”
Discouragement. Satan tells you, “You’re never going to get any better. Your life won’t change. Don’t even try."
Delay. You ask yourself, “Why is this taking so long?” Something you want to happen hasn’t happened by now."
Difficulty. You ask yourself, “Why is this so hard? Why is it so hard to make my marriage work? Why is it so hard to get a job?”
Depression. You tell yourself, “It’s not worth it.” You don’t even feel like making an effort." (Rick Warren)
I imagine my shield of faith the size of the huge pocket doorways in the old home at Healing Place Ministries. It wasn't that size when I came to salvation but my faith shield is becoming large enough to provide exactly what I need in my journey.
When thoughts of my shortcomings are blasting my brain, attacking my character and I find myself slipping into the mindset that I have nothing to offer. I have a choice to make. I can stand firm in my faith or I can agree with what the lies the enemy is telling me. That’s one of the reasons Paul encourages us to fix our thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8 NLT)
Newsflash: Satan will never stop throwing his fiery darts so we must stay on guard, trusting God and His Word, no matter what.
“you need to doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs. Most people do the opposite.” (Rick Warren)
Do whatever it takes to build ourselves up in the most holy faith, according to Jude 1:20.
